As far as we know,
David doesn't have any tattoos but Angel does has a
gorgeous one located on his right shoulder blade. It's a
large Celtic gryphon that's holding the letter
"A" (for Angel?) between it's legs. Lydia let
me know that the "gryphon" is actually the god
Phoenix who's story told that the bird Phoenix rose up
from the ashes. Meaning: That when you die, you'll
eventually come back some day if you are strong enough.
Like Angel as a vampire, so it may be thought that Angel
got this done when he became a vampire. It was probably
done when he was in Ireland with Darla but nothing is
really known about it.
Interesting fact: Joss Whedon had asked
for a tattoo to be created for Angel and Todd MacIntosh
created a bunch of them and selected the gryphon. Later,
during the episode Angel, after the tattoo had been
applied to David, Joss was a little shocked and said he'd
only wanted a very small tattoo like a shamrock or
something of that size. But they decided to stick with
the tattoo because they felt it suited Angel.

Well, everyone's curious about
those pictures of David with his entire body painted and
here's the story, that I know, behind it. These pictures
were done before Buffy had ever aired. Some photographer
in Australia asked David if she could paint his body and
take some pictures for some project of hers. David agreed
and the photographer painted David's body with all sorts
of designs and then took some pictures. When the
photographer was asked to reminisce about the pictures
she said that David's hair had been much longer at the
time and that he hadn't been into very much acting.

After David's marriage to Jamie
Bergmen, the two of them got matching tattoos inked onto
their inside wrists. The tattoos are solid black Chinese
characters which represent soul and fate. Jaime has
matching ones. This is so that when they hold hands,
their souls and their fates are joined together.
