Summary: A Chinese gang arrives in
Sunnydale and suddenly they're committing criminal acts
all over the town. Immediately racial tension begin to
increase and one of Willow's friends, Jia Li, is feeling
the effects more than anyone else. She's discovered that
her brother Lok is delving into the occult in order to
learn more about their great grandfather's tragic death
in Sunnydale many years ago. Coinciding with these
events, a man named Zhiyong is trying to raise the men
that died in a cave many years ago in order to raise
Sharmma, a demon that would give him power in return. A
beautiful warrior called Shing arrives on the scene at
the same time and she's just as strong as Buffy. Xander
feels an immediate attraction for her but there's
something about her that he doesn't know... |

Review: This book did not keep my
attention whatsoever. It took me damn near a month to
read the bloody thing. I don't know whether it's my fault
for not concentration or just that the book lacked
something but it still didn't hold my attention. Until
the very end that is. Throughout the novel I felt a
somewhat broken storyline with parts that didn't mesh at
all. There are some great moments in it, such as Xander
playing basketball with a couple of vamps and later on
the exchanges between Xander and Buffy are absolutely
wonderful (their drive around in the bomb truck and the
whole twinkie ordeal) and were brilliantly written. But
it wasn't until the end that I appreciated these events.
The ending battle scene was spectacular and made up for a
lot of what the novel was lacking. Shing was also a great
character, though I wanted her more developed, we find
out she's a ghost but we don't really learn why. Not my
first choice for a read but if you don't mind sifting
through the whole story until you get to the end then go
for it. |
