Summary: A five hundred year old Spanish expedition
has been located on the outskirts of Sunnydale. There's a mysterious
mirror which is purported to have contained the spirit of Tezcatlipoca
that has been uncovered... Only to be lost immediately under very odd
circumstances. As Buffy begins to investigate the odd occurrence she
finds herself in a fight with a large jaguar that has appeared out of
nowhere. Buffy's also starting to have dreams about ancient Aztec
temples as well as some very disturbing things regarding Angel. As she
and the Scoobies begin to dig deeper into the mystery they realize that
Tezcatlipoca's spirit, once released on the world, could very well stop
the sun from shining ever again. |

Review: This was one of those novels that was
printed in that section of time where every Buffy novel published was
just downright bad. I absolutely hated it the first time I read it.
However, it grew on me a little more this time round. Unfortunately that
doesn't mean that it was all that good. There are some distinctly odd
character traits and descriptions that just don't fit with the
actual characters themselves. It's as if the author didn't actually
watch Buffy all that much but was just hired to write a novel for
the series in order to make some money. Not exactly the best way to
please viewers. However, I particularly liked the ending. Although Dem's
character was just too bland for my tastes, I liked how the ending
didn't involve him too much but rather everyone in general. One thing
that this author definitely did very well was utilize all the cast
members. |
