Summary: Giles has become the king
of vampires and even Spike is under his rule. Drusilla is
dead and Spike seeks revenge on Giles who was the one who
sent Drusilla out to kill the Slayer. After Giles casts him out from his
lair, Spike immediately goes to the human headquarters. Meanwhile, Buffy
is trying to reacquaint herself with all of her friends... or at least
they used to be her friends. Her twin spirits are confused by the
changes she'd had to go through and finds it difficult to accept that
the future is so different. After finding out that Spike was the one
that killed her mom, Buffy tortures him for information, but it's
finally Xander who stakes him, in Anya's honour. Meanwhile, Giles has
plans for Buffy; he plans to make her a vampire so that she could be by
his side once again. |

Review: Not nearly as eventful as
the past two novels which was kind of disappointing. However I think it
had to do with the fact that they needed to reconnect the characters
that had once been friends and then explain what had happened in the
horrible future. It was really pretty sad... everyone ends up dead:
Buffy's mom, Anya... Willow doesn't love Oz anymore because he killed
her vampire parents... Wow... what a mess. Even though it was a pretty
desolate, we got to experience emotions that the characters wouldn't
normally have. And that was pretty fascinating. I like storylines that
drag us away from what we normally expect, and then immerse us in a
version of what could have happened to the gang. It can be pretty
powerful stuff. And it was, at times. At other times I don't think it
succeeded as well as it should have. Regardless, still a good third part
to the series. |
