Summary: After an oil spill on a nearby Sunnydale beach, Willow discovers a selkie; that is, a girl that can turn into a seal with her sealskin. The selkie, dubbed Ariel by the gang, cannot return to the ocean because her sealskin was damaged by the oil spill. Willow's trying to find a spell to clean it. At the same time, mermaid-like creatures called merrows have come ashore in search of food and the vampire population gets territorial and try to kill the merrows. Buffy and the gang get stuck in the middle of a turf war while trying to save Ariel.

Review: The beginning wasn't exactly to my taste but I quickly warmed to the storyline. The merrows were really cool as they were an interesting take off of general mermaids. I liked the idea of a turf war between the vampires and merrows and that finale fight scene along the beach was excellent. I really loved that scene as it was an inventive place for a fight and made for some interesting imagery. Another part I really liked was Buffy's comment about Oz' natural hair colour and him not really remembering what it really was. It was small details like that that made this novel great to read.
