Summary

Xander and Anya are in their apartment and Xander keeps forgetting that Riley's left Sunnydale. Anya tells Xander that if he's planning on leaving her, she wants plenty of advance notice with big flashing lights. Anya seems to think that maybe it's Buffy that has the problem, and not the guys she dates. Meanwhile Buffy is at a convent saving a nun from a vampire. The next day Buffy trains with Giles during which he tells her that he's going to England to get more informatin about Glory. Buffy doesn't like that they have to tell the Council about the key. Giles mentions Riley, but Buffy's semi-okay with hearing his name. Later on Giles tells the rest of the gang that he's leaving for a week, to which Anya becomes very excited about. Giles is a little uncomfortable letting Anya run the whole store but Willow offers to help out. Anya gets upset because she doesn't want Willow's help. Buffy's mom is finally feeling better at home. Buffy's in her room and she's talking to Dawn. Dawn notices that Buffy took down all of Riley's pictures. Buffy tells Dawn that it really hurts because she realizes she's to blame for Riley leaving her and Dawn seems to miss him too. Buffy's hoping that he'll come back so she can say everything she didn't get the chance to say. Meanwhile Spike is rehearsing a speech to a mannequin that he's pretending is Buffy. He's trying to apologize for taking her to see Riley at the vampire house.

Willow and Tara are going to try spells with materials from Giles' shop but Anya thinks they're stealing and wants them to stop immediately. Xander walks in and both Willow and Anya try to get him to see their point of view. He doesn't want to be put in the middle of it. Willow accidentally makes the cash register disappear and Anya starts flipping out for fear of danger to the money. Xander leaves and so does Tara because they figure Willow and Anya need to talk things out. Willow continues with her spell while Anya marks down everything that she uses. Willow begins chanting but Anya keeps interrupting, ruining the spell. They start arguing heatedly when suddenly a huge troll appears from Willow's half-done spell. It bashes things apart with its huge hammer and then leaves in search of some victims.

At school Tara and Buffy are leaving their class together when Tara mentions that Willow and Anya were arguing and that Xander left so that they could talk it over. Buffy starts to panic, thinking that Xander's leaving Anya. She starts to cry on Tara's shoulder, babbling hysterically about love. Meanwhile Willow and Anya are in Giles' car trailing after the troll, bickering the whole way. Anya drives while Willow looks for a reversal spell. Meanwhile Xander runs into Spike at the Bronze and they sit down together. Spike asks about Buffy continuously. Tara and Buffy find the Magic Box in shambles and no sign of Willow or Anya anywhere. The troll is outside running rampant over the town. He enters the Bronze where Spike and Xander are discussing the problems with women. The troll starts guzzling all the beer. Buffy and Tara show up at the same time as Anya and Willow do. The troll addresses Anya by name. Apparently they dated, he cheated on her and she turned him into a troll, which led to her becoming a vengeance demon. The troll vows to kill her as well as all witches because it was witches that had trapped him in that crytsal for seven centuries. Willow tries to reverse the her spell but it's not working. The troll starts destroying the Bronze with his huge hammer and then leaves in search of small babies to eat.

Willow and Anya return to Giles' shop to look for more spells to get rid of Olaf. Willow and Anya get started on how they think the other is going to hurt Xander in some way. Anya makes it clear that she would never cast a spell on Xander but she's worried that Willow might try to steal Xander away from her, like she did with Cordelia. Suddenly Olaf the troll burst in, followed by Xander who orders Olaf no to touch them. Xander tries to fight back but he's no match for Olaf. Impressed by Xander's attempt to fight back, he grants Xander that one of his women will live. He just has to choose which one will live. Xander cannot choose so Olaf breaks Xander's wrist. Buffy appears and starts fighting Olaf while Anya tries to distract him by saying nasty things about him. Willow destroys the power in Olaf's hammer and Buffy starts wailing on him, even more so when he insults her friends. She knocks him out and Willow sends him to the land of trolls.

When Giles returns to Sunnydale, Buffy tells him about the troll and Giles informs her that he learned nothing about Glory while in England, but that the Council is now researching it thoroughly. Joyce mentions that she can't believe Dawn, her little girl, is the key. Unbeknowst to them, Dawn is overhearing all of this.

Nika's Review

Not really fussy about this episode. It had it's funny moments and it was nice to see Anya and Willow sort some things about between themselves but I still wasn't that excited about this episode. I left me with no feeling and just a general "oh, it's over" sort of deal. I really liked the troll though, he was funny and his whole attitude was enjoyable (well, up until the whole "let's kill them all routine"). Interesting to find out what exactly had made Anya a vengeance demon! Ugh, the parts that made me cringe the most was when Buffy started babbling hysterically about miraculous love. Jeez... we get it... you miss Riley but seriously! No one acts like that! What I'm hating is that Dawn is always hearing people say weird things about her. That's gotta be really hurtful for her. I'm surprised she's not suicidal or something! I mean really... You'd think that Giles, Buffy and Joyce would have the common sense to talk about it somewhere where Dawn wouldn't be in the near vicinity. So if Giles has no info from the Council about Glory then this is only reinforcing the theory that the Council really isn't very with it. They wouldn't help with Angel's poison situation back in Season 3, they didn't know how to deal with a rogue Slayer, they alienated both the Slayer and the Watcher. What is WRONG with this Council? Do they not realize they aren't functioning so damn well? Geez, smarten up people!
