Buffy's training on a very padded Xander
and she's taking all her aggression out about Spike
liking her. Xander assures her that there will be another
guy for her, she just has to wait. Buffy figures that she
needs to be less self-involved and pay more attention to
the guy's likes. Meanwhile a bizarrely smiling girls
arrives in town, looking for true love. The next day
Joyce is getting ready for her date with Brian tonight
and she's very nervous as well as excited. On school
campus Tara and Anya are hanging out together and Anya's
telling her how she tripled her money online. The same
girl that arrived in town last night stops them to ask if
they know Warren, they don't, so that girl moves on to
ask the next person she sees about Warren. At a local
party that night Buffy asks Ben to dance but he excuses
himself first. He comes back later and offers her his
number which she accepts. The girl looking for Warren,
whose name is April, shows up and Warren makes a quick
exit obviously avoiding her. She continues to ask
everyone where Warrern is. Spike is at the party and as
he watches Buffy flirt with Ben he goes over to April and
whispers little nasties into her ear. Insulted, because
Warren is her boyfriend and not Spike, she grabs him and
with inhuman strength lifts him up and throws him through
the nearest window. Buffy rushes up to the girl only to
be thrown across the room. The groups convenes later and
they figure that April's a robot. Buffy returns home to
save Giles from baby-sitting Dawn. She informs him of the
robot and research party tomorrow while Joyce arrives
home from her date with details Buffy really doesn't want
to hear. That night a persistent April goes around
knocking on doors at all hours looking for Warren.
The next day the gang is at the Magic Box
and Willow pulls up on her laptop an address for a
Warren. They figure April's only a sex-bot and can cause
no real damage. Later on Buffy calls Ben and on the other
end we see Glory transform into Ben. Buffy asks him out
for coffee and plans are made for tomorrow night.
Meanwhile Warren is packing up all his belongings and
he's trying to get him and his girlfriend Katrina out of
Sunnydale as soon as possible. Katrina doesn't know
what's going and then Buffy shows up to talk to him.
Meanwhile Spike arrives at Giles' shop and Giles tells
him he's not welcome here, they are not his friends and
that he should forget about Buffy and then kicks him out.
Back at Warren's house, he's explaining to Buffy that he
made April to love him but he doesn't love her even
though he made her exactly the way he wanted. He loves
Katrina instead. He tells her that he never told April
that he was going away and that her batteries should be
dead by now.
Katrina, angry at Warren for not telling
her anything, is storming through a park when she runs
into April who asks her is she knows Warrren. Katrina
gets mad and they argue over who's boyfriend he is. April
gets violent and starts to choke Kstrina. Buffy and
Warren go searching and find April and Katrina. They take
a barely conscious Katrina away from April. April is
overly concerned for Warren. Warren then tells April that
he doesn't love her. Angry, April starts fighting Buffy
and she's incredibly strong. But just as she's about to
choke Buffy her batteries run down. Buffy and April sit
down together just to talk. April knows she did
everything right for Warren and now she doesn't know why
she exists. Buffy tries to comfort April until the
batteries run completely out and April stops moving.
Later on, while talking with Xander,
Buffy decides she doesn't need a guy right now and she
should be alone for a while. She calls Ben and cancels
their date. Glory gets the message and she's disappointed
that Buffy turned them down. Spike visits Warren and
gives him a boxful of pictures of Buffy. He wants a robot
made that's identical to Buffy. Buffy returns home to
find her mother lying awkwardly on the sofa, not moving,
not breathing.
A decent filler episode. April was kind
of fun and the way she talked was certainly entertaining.
Even though we are in Sunnydale atop the infamous
Hellmouth, I still don't see how it's possible for a guy
to come up with a robot that sophisticated. I can believe
in demons because of the Hellmouth, but nobody has
technology that far advanced. Or maybe they do and I'm
just not aware of it. But the most interesting points in
this episode were towards the end. First off, a
Buffy-bot? How cool could this be? Having Buffy fight a
robot replica of herself later on? This could make for
some awesome scenes! And second (and
last point) was Buffy's mom. She looked so nice and happy
and she was dating so everything was looking up. Which of
course should have made all of us think that it was only
downhill from there. Is she really dead? Or is this a
Glory trick? She looked pretty bad lying there and
Buffy's little uttering of "Mommy?" was pretty
darn sad. And next week we have an episode titled The
Body which certainly doesn't bode well for Joyce...
