Summary

The whole gang is in the hospital waiting for results on Joyce's surgery. Eventually the doctor comes out of surgery and tells her he managed to get all of the tumour out. Dawn is sent to Xander and Anya's apartment so that Buffy and Riley can have some alone time. Buffy and Riley are holding each other by the light of some candles in Buffy's living room. Buffy's incredibly happy that her mom isn't going to be having anymore problems. Buffy and Riley make love while Spike stands outside her house. As soon as Buffy drifts off to sleep Riley leaves the house. Spike spots him and follows him at a safe distance. He follows him to a rundown house in the bad area of town. The next day Buffy visits her mom in the hospital but her mom thinks that she should go out and see Riley. Buffy says that she can see him anytime and she'd rather take care of her mom right now. Meanwhile the military guys are planning on leaving Sunnydale on a mission to Belize and they want to take Riley with them. That night, while Buffy is in bed, Spike barges in and tells her that he has something important to show her. He takes her to the rundown house that riley went to the other day. Inside are vampires feeding off of willing humans. Spike takes her upstairs to a room where a vampire is feeding off Riley's arm. Buffy can't believe what's she seeing and runs off. Riley spots her and doesn't know what to say. Riley heads back to his apartment where he's greeted by the army men. They tell him about the mission in Belize. They leave tomorrow at midnight and it's his decision whether or not he wants to go with them.

Buffy barges into Giles' store the next day and asks the group if they know anything about a vamp nest downtown where humans pay to be bitten. None of them have heard anything about this. Buffy vows to kill the entire nest with or without her gang as backup. Anya stays to watch the shop while the core Scooby Gang head to the house. Buffy gets angry when she finds the place deserted and torches the place. Meanwhile Riley knocks down Spike's door and stabs him through the heart with a stake. It's only a fake stake and Riley was trying to shock Spike because of his nasty trick last night (of showing Buffy where he was). Spike tells Riley that he's not going to be with Buffy for long and he knows it. Spike admits that he's envious of Riley for being so close to her.

Buffy is in the backroom of the shop beating the stuffing out of a punching bag. Riley shows up and heads into the back room, wanting to talk to her. He tells her that he did this because he wanted to know why vampires seem to have so much power over her (Angel, Dracula, etc.). He wanted to know how she felt when she was bitten by them. He says that those vampires that fed off of him needed him for his blood and that he felt passion from them for needing him so much. Riley feels that she's keeping him at a distance and she doesn't let him in to her true feelings. Buffy doesn't know what else she can give him because she feels she's already given him everything she has. But he doesn't feel that. Riley then tells her that the military wants him back and they leave tonight and if he goes he'll have no outside contacts with the world. She can't believe he's giving her an ultimatum. She walks past him and he tells her that he's leaving tonight unless she gives him a reason to stay. Buffy walks out into a back alley where she's quickly surrounded by eight vampires, the ones who's house she burned down. She stakes them all in a quick frenzy. The last vampire she stakes is the vamp that was feeding off Riley. Xander then appears in the alley. She doesn't want to listen to him but he tells her he's surprised that she didn't see any of this coming. Xander tells her that Riley will disappear forever if she doesn't do something to stop him. He tells her that she's been treating Riley like the rebound guy and that she hasn't opened up to him; hasn't loved him. Buffy begins to realize what she's been doing. It's very close to midnight and Xander tells her to run. And she does; as fast as she can. Riley is standing out by the helicopter looking around but she never shows so he gets into the helicopter. She gets there just as the helicopter is above her head. She screams for him but he can't hear her and he never looks down. Desolate, Buffy walks home. Meanwhile Xander goes home to Anya and tells her that he's completely in love with her, and he's never felt like this for anyone before. At home Buffy's in shock and can only stare straight ahead of her while Riley is heading towards Belize.

Nika's Review

Okay, no one seems to like Riley. But I did, I really did. He was fun to watch and even though I didn't really like where he was going with this whole vampire suckage thing he was still good for Buffy. She needed him and they were good together. It was so sad the way he left the show too. I mean, she missed him by, like, two steps. How sad is that? Realizing that you had everything you needed and then losing it just because you couldn't run fast enough? That you missed it all by two steps? I really felt bad for Riley too because now he won't know that Buffy realized she was wrong. Crap this sucks. I also don't like where this whole thing is going with Spike. Just get the bloody chip out of his head. I don't like him as a pansy and a love-sick puppy. It's not the Spike I love and it's making me sick! Also, the other members of this show are really getting thrown into the background and it's kind of sad. When was there last a storyline about Willow? Or even Giles?
