HANDPRINTS IN THE SAND

He walks along the beach, just as the sun is starting to set. She scans the water with her green eyes, hoping to see a strange fish or a reflection of a tall, dark, and handsome man standing right behind her. But there was no fish, nor a tall, dark, and handsome man there. She then recalled he left her to have a normal life 3 months ago. But what he was wrong about is that her life wasn't a bit normal. Sure, the slaying was normal, and her friends were always there.

But something was missing in her life. She hadn't had the wholeness that everyone so seldom talks about. She expected him to be there. He would always just show up without warning when she was feeling the worst. That is what she liked best about him. She remembered when he was always telling her that they would always be together and he would always love her. That was an empty promise that made her stomach ache. She still cried herself to sleep sometimes, whispering his name.

She remembered when she held him for the last time at the Prom when he told her it was just for tonight and that he wasn't staying. She told him she understood, but deep down she was like a little child and didn't know why he was doing this to her. And then when she unselfishly forced him to drink from her, to save his own life. But then she remembered way back when he had made love to her and took her virginity, and much more. he took her whole essence of innocence in this world. But she was fine with it. She wanted him to be the one to have it. To have a part of her.

And then when they were down in the sewers and he told her he was leaving her, leaving town. They had fought side by side on Graduation Day and then after that she turned around and saw a last vision of him through the smoke, and then he disappeared into the night. She hadn't known where he'd gone or what he'd do next, but she knew he would be safe. So thinking of his face and looking out into the night, she knelt down on the upper shore and pressed her hands into the wet sand and then wrote underneath it the word "FOREVER?". And then disappeared into the night.

But little did she know, somewhere on the coast in L.A. ,a tall, dark, and handsome man was kneeling down and pressing his hands into the soft, wet soil of the ocean shore, and he wrote underneath it the words, "FOREVER, MY LOVE". And then he watched it until it washed away when the waves shot up from the ocean. And he smiled as he walked away.
